5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Go It Alone

I’m a loner.

I’m not lonely, I just like being alone. I also like being able to control everything myself. While this has been great for consistency of brand and message, it often sucks when I need to take big steps.

I’ve been this way for so long, I’ve developed a list of things I have to do to remind myself that “alone” is not always better.

  1. Take a breath. Most people do not share your same sense of urgency. And that’s OK.

  2. They also don’t share your perfectionism, your sense of humor, or your strong opinions. And that’s OK, too.

  3. You don’t know everything. Find people who know what you don’t.

  4. It’s OK to ask for help. It’s OK to ask for help. IT’S OK TO ASK FOR HELP!!

  5. The internet is amazing. You can find other wicked smart people who know what you don’t know, and who are willing to help you…without ever leaving your desk!

With regards to #5, I’ve found accountability partners, mentors, and colleagues who will commiserate and celebrate with me through membership in several online communities. And all I had to do was ask.

Did asking make me feel weak? A fraud? A fake? A failure?

Yes, initially. But once I screwed up my courage, saw that others were dealing with the same issues, and got specific in what I needed, asking became much easier.

Why not give it a try? Head on down to the comments and ask for something—anything. I guarantee this is a safe space to put yourself out there. You’ll never know what you’ll receive in return.

In a couple of weeks, I’ll be opening up registration for the Fall 2024 Fearlessly Ask for Anything Leadership Program. If you’re really ready to get over your fears of asking, get on the waitlist right now.
